CALL FOR PAPERS for the Spring Symposium on Challenges in Tourism Development Gran Canaria 2017 (SSTD 2017) May 18th and 19th, 2017 GRAN CANARIA ISLAND/ SPAIN.
The annual Tourism Tides Symposium will take place from May 18th to 19th in Gran Canaria island, Spain, under the theme “Challenges in Sustainable Tourism Development: Big data”. It will provide an opportunity for tourism researchers and practitioners from all over the world to exchange scientific ideas and results and discuss new and emerging directions in research and practice in the field. Theoretical or applied research contributions in the form of structured abstracts are welcome.

SSTD 2017 offers:

Workshops on research methods and on special topics (big data and sustainability); High quality scientific parallel sessions with internationally peer-reviewed paper presentations, so quality feedback on your work is guaranteed.

− A unique Spring academic experience on Gran Canaria Island in Spain.

All abstracts will be subject to a double blind peer review process. Selected academic contributions addressing one or more of the sub-themes of the symposium will be presented during plenary and parallel sessions. Please refer to the ‘Submission guidelines’ document as a style guide for standards to follow in the preparation of your extended abstract. Abstracts must be uploaded to the online submission and reviewing email address: tides@ulpgc.es  (theme: Abstract SSTD 2017).


Important Dates:

•    EXTENDED Abstract submission deadline: April 17th, 2017
•    Acceptance notification: April 24th, 2017
•    Registration deadline : May 5th

Registration Fee: 90 euros

The seminar fee includes participation in the seminar, seminar programme, coffee break, lunch, tapas and winery experience.
Please, in order to formally register for the conference you should make the payment of the registration before May 5th.


The extended abstract will have:
the purpose of the study, methodology, findings, originality, research limitations and practical implications in no more than 600 words.


The scope of SSTD 2017 encompasses:
a) Tourism and Sustainable Economic Development b) Consumer Behaviour in tourism c) Future directions for tourism demand d) Economic Perspectives on Tourism and Transport.

Papers addressing one of the Topics related to Tourism and Sustainable Economic Development will be highly welcomed: i. Competitiveness, innovation and market research: Theoretical, methodological and practical developments ii. Tourism and Quality of Life Research: Theories, Practices, Applications, and Challenges iii. Future Tourism Demand: Demographic, Behavioural and Social Changes. Challenges for marketers and economists iv. The changing face of tourism: Emerging issues for consumer behaviour research and practice v. Ensuring validity in tourism consumer behaviour studies and in hospitality research: Issues of measurement and methodology.

The “Spring Symposium on Challenges in Sustainable Tourism Development”, as part of the I INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS OF TIDES, was conceived in order to provide an international forum for academics, researchers, professionals and students to discuss some aspects related to sustainability, competitiveness and economic prospects in tourism and transport.

Communications were framed within the following issues: a) Tourism and Sustainable Economic Development; b) Consumer behavior in Tourism; c) Economic Perspectives on Tourism and Transport; and d) Tourism and Marketing.

This CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS, has been the result of two days of knowledge and experiences exchange, related to Sustainable Tourism Development.
