Why this Master

Most tourism programs teach the industry as it was.
We train you for the one that's coming.

Four pillars that turn academic training into strategic leverage — on your CV, in your research career, and in your ability to transform destinations.

01

Sustainability as Strategy

Go beyond green marketing. Learn to turn sustainability into a strategic framework that balances environmental responsibility, economic resilience and long-term competitiveness — the language boards and policy-makers now speak.

02

Neurotourism & AI Analytics

Access the world’s first university-based Neurotourism Laboratory. Apply neuromarketing tools, biometrics and AI-supported analytics to tourism decision-making — a skill set almost no other program in Europe offers.

03

Career-Focused Pathways

The program is structured around five exit pathways: doctoral research, destination leadership, policy & advisory roles, international organisations, and data-driven tourism entrepreneurship.

04

A Faculty That Actually Publishes

You study under researchers whose output placed ULPGC #2 in the EU. Research-led teaching means you leave with a thesis that can be published, cited, and used to open doors — not just graded.

FREQUENTLY ASKED

Still weighing it up?

The questions prospective students ask us most often, answered honestly.

TIDES is a public university institute at ULPGC. Tuition is regulated and heavily subsidised by the Spanish public system — that’s how all public-university masters work in Spain. The €768 figure is not a discount; it’s the real total. The programme itself is ranked #2 in the European Union for Tourism & Hospitality research (Shanghai Ranking 2025).

A university degree from any field can be suitable — the programme welcomes profiles from business, economics, environmental sciences, geography, engineering, and social sciences. You will need accredited English proficiency (we send you the full list of accepted certificates after you request the info pack), plus your transcript, CV and motivation letter.

Yes, 100% of the teaching and assessments are in English. The Canary Islands have one of Europe’s largest international student and digital-nomad communities — you won’t need Spanish to live, study, or work here, though picking it up is part of the experience.

Many students do. Classes run on a structured weekly schedule that leaves space for part-time remote work. Gran Canaria is consistently ranked among Europe’s top digital-nomad destinations, with fast fibre, co-working spaces, and strong time-zone overlap with both Europe and the Americas.

Selection is based on academic record, motivation and fit with the programme’s research priorities. We recommend requesting the info pack as early as possible — the 15-minute admissions call is where we help you position your application strategically for scholarship eligibility.

Yes — that’s one of its core design goals. The programme is explicitly structured as a research-led pathway, and graduates who demonstrate research aptitude can progress directly into the ULPGC doctoral programme in Tourism, Economics and Sustainability. Many of our PhD candidates start here.
