V Spring Symposium on Challenges in Tourism Development
June 4th and 5th, 2020, GRAN CANARIA ISLAND / SPAIN
The annual Tourism Tides Symposium will be held during the 4th and 5th of June in Gran Canaria, (Canary Islands, Spain). The topic this year will be focused in “STRATEGIES FROM MATURE TO LEADING NEUTRAL CARBON TOURIST DESTINATIONS». The symposium provides an opportunity for tourism researchers from all over the world to exchange scientific ideas and results and discuss new and emerging directions in research and practice in the field. Theoretical or applied research contributions in the form of structured abstracts are welcome.

[column_item col=»11″]Dr. Sangwon Park
Sangwon Park is an Associate Professor in the School of Hotel and Tourism Management at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Coordinator of Tomorrow’s Guestrooms at Hotel ICON. Prior to joining the school in 2017, he taught at the University of Surrey in the UK, and has served as Deputy Head of Hospitality Management. Dr Park has awarded PhD Degree from the Temple University, USA (Business Administration) and received Master Degree in Hotel & Restaurant Management with Statistics minor from the University of Missouri – Columbia, USA. Dr Park also recognized Emerging Scholar of Distinction from at International Academy of the Study of Tourism 2019. His primary research interests include information technology, big data and digital marketing in tourism and hospitality.
He has several publications in top one international journals (JCR) like “Multidimensional facets of perceived risk in mobile travel booking” published in Journal of Travel Research in 2017, “Electronic word of mouth and hotel performance: A meta-analysis” published in Tourism management in 2018 and very recently “ How guests develop trust in hosts: An investigation of trust formation in P2P accommodation” and “Determinant Factors of Tourist Expenses” both published in Journal of Travel Research in 2019.

[column_item col=»11″]Dr. Denis J. Garand
Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management Professor at Université Laval (Québec City), Dr. Garand has served as Associate Editor at “Journal of Small Business and Entrepreneurship – JSBE” and “Revue internationale P.M.E. – RIPME” from 2000 to 2013. His research interests include HRM in SMEs (highly-qualified personnel), cross-campus entrepreneurship education, entrepreneurial vision, intent and strategies. From 2002-2007, he has created and implemented the Entrepreneurial Profile at Laval U., giving undergraduates enrolled in 40 programs the opportunity to develop their entrepreneurial competences and realistic project before they graduate. Until 2015, he has led an applied study aiming (1) to raise awareness and promote entrepreneurship among life / health sciences academics, graduate students and fellows; (2) to support their socio-economic benefits grant applications and implementation; (3) to coach them towards potential commercialization of their discoveries. Boosting Entrepreneurial Skills & Training: BEST in genomics! promotes a national implementation of a more entrepreneurial mindset and culture among scientists from a wide diversity of sectors: human and animal health, agri-food and aquaculture, forestry, environment, including synthetic biology, proteomics, nutrigenomics and other growing fields. More recently, he has been involved in Entrepreneurship Education projects and courses, mainly on (1) Women entrepreneurs in STEM; (2) the Millenials and other generations; (3) Fintech and Cleantech innovations and strategies; (4) venturing in the digital world (Industry 4.0, AI, machine-learning…).

Important Dates:
- Extended abstract submission: 14th February, 2020. (Send to tides@ulpgc.es). Following some participant requests, the deadline is extended to 27th February
- Acceptance notification: 2nd March, 2020.
- Full paper submission (optional): 4th May, 2020. (Send to tides@ulpgc.es)
- Early registration deadline: 4th May, 2020
The extended abstract will have: keys words, the purpose of the study, methodology, findings, originality, research limitations and practical implications in no more than 500 words.
All extended abstracts will be subject to a double-blind peer review process. Selected academic contributions addressing one or more of the sub-themes of the symposium will be presented during plenary and parallel sessions. Abstracts must be uploaded to the online submission and reviewing email address: (theme: Abstract SSTD 2020).
